Three things that have made me who I am today

Do you ever look back on childhood photos and say, "Wow, I was so cute...what happened?" Sometimes I have those moments. Apparently, when I was younger, I was a badass girl rocking lace gloves with a printed tee, a girl with a chic sun hat, and a wild girl who had no limits or shame to how I was dressed. Looking at today, these elements have stayed with me, though maybe in a more subtle light. It's funny to see how childhood shapes who you are, and to look back at your roots. As I see my older and less adventurous self today, I must say I need to take a cue from the past and be freer like a child! I advise you to do the same and to have fun with the way you dress yourself!

Do you have any defining moments in childhood that have shaped you to be who you are today? Any photos embarassing/cute? Share them with me!

Cacharel F'12

all images via style.com

I'm so excited over Cacharel's fall line. The head to toe colors with matching gloves and floral printed stockings are amazing. I love the hues of this line with its softness in pastels and richness in deep blues and accenting reds. The hair is sleek and simple with a chic side clip that adds a little extra to each outfit. The soft make up with a beautiful burgundy is in no way overpowering, but rather perfect for the woman who'd be in these clothes. This collection is beautiful, but what makes it stand out more so to me is subtle details that take it from 'pretty' to 'chicly stylish.' A punchy color shoe, a floral printed tight, a metallic collar or an oversized scarf makes sure that these women are hardly your typical pretty women, but instead women that just posses style. I'm in love.

Simple Styling Sundays: The Unexpected Hair Pick-Me-Up

I'm the kind of person that gets bored easily pretty much with everything. I'm always on the search for new clothes, the next trend, a new recipe, a new cafe, more nail polish and lipstick...the list goes on and on. The same goes with my hair. I can't tell you how frustrating it is during summer time and how nervous I get before hair cuts, but I always want to change it! So, I found a very simple and easy way to change update my hair: pink hair extensions.

sultra hair extensions from sephora

They are the perfect pink in the perfect length. A lot of people I know have been going ombre and dying their tips bright pink. I wish I was that bold to just go and do it, but not with my hair. My hair gets pretty brittle when dyed, so I'd like to stick to this awesome extension instead. The clip sometimes is a little hard to get in, but I normally braid my hair on the crown of my head, hide the clip under and braid the extension in. It's best when you tease your hair and have the clip subtly show.

This is a quick example I did after washing my hair. I like having my hair wet and messy so the clip stays in the best. Normally I just show the clip on the side of my head instead of having it fully show. Something about having a really chic dress on then having a glimpse of the pink extension poking out on the side. So unexpected! Adds such character and style.

Enjoy!

Onsie in the City

romper+sunglasses: street shopping in korea, purse: valentina, sandals: michael kors, shirt: h&m

I wore this outfit on a low key Saturday afternoon/evening to check out a restaurant in Soho. I'm in love with this romper (don't know if you can tell underneath my white shirt), and decided to accent it with red and gold. What I love the most about this romper is its loose fitting. It's pretty sporty with longer shorts and a not too slim fit. It's more relaxed, but has character since it's not the average tight fitted hug-your-body everywhere romper. Some pig tails made my outfit fun and more relaxed, but my Michael Kors sandals made it more put together and not too casual. The power of the shoe. In fact, these are probably my most worn pair of shoes--I've literally beaten them to death as the heels are now broken after tripping on a sidewalk the other day! The mileage I've gotten out of these girls...sigh, I need to fix them asap! They've been in all my adventures, visited different countries with me, and made me feel more confident while strolling down the street. I'm sure all of you have a pair just like that. Like the go to black dress, but instead the go to shoe. It's sad to see the end of its life coming (but I'll just order another one hehe). But back to the main topic--I was comfortable in the heat and while casually strolling around Noho afterwards. I remember there was a street pianist playing in Washington Square while an Indian festival was going on in the background. Such culture in the city! It's wonderful. You never know what you're going to see, or who you're going to meet on any given day :)

Hello Kitty!

dress+bracelet: asos, shoes+necklace: zara, purse: hello kitty

I was so happy when I received my Hello Kitty Purse! Very reminiscent of LV, right? Except it's in the cutest pastel blue color, I really can't put it down. I wore this outfit to lunch at Arturos in the West Village with my bestie! I can't get enough of the cutouts, or the pastel color or the knot front. This will probably be my favorite dress for a while. I paired them with my Zara heels that I purchased at the beginning of summer. Quite honestly, they are pretty and go with everything, but I definitely missed the memo of how uncomfortable they are. Sigh, I really wish I didn't have flat feet! Oh, and can you spot my friend in the 4th picture? I didn't know she was hiding there until she giggled behind me. Silly girl! I love her so much, we started playing around in front of the camera :)

It's almost Friday!

It's already mid July. Where did time go? Soon August will come, and the weather will get milder. Though I'm not opposed to that, it also means less roof top grillings, closed pools, and no hot summer nights. Again, where did time seriously go? Maybe it's just me, and there's still a solid month and a half of summer left, but really this signifies one thing: get your last summer vaca in ASAP! I'm itching to travel, just one more spontaneous road trip PUH-LEAS! And maybe, you're thinking it too: just one more trip, one more get-a-way. Well, I'm way ahead of you and already picked out great things to pack for care-free travel.
I would start and absolutely make sure to have a travel cosmetic purse. Back in college, I would shove everything into a zip-lock, call it a day and smoosh it into my suitcase. Haha, it taught me a lesson after half my make up was ruined with lotion glazed on top of everything. Plus, you want to feel chic, right? Like some jet setter with places to go and people to see, amma right? Well, start packing that way!
I recommend Forever21's faux leather cosmetic pouch with metallic polka dots. Why? Because it's a good size, and it can double as a clutch when going out. Awesome! I love compact packing! Next, I recommend putting lotions and hairspray into tiny travel bottles. Taking a flight? These bottles are the perfect carry-on size. Less hassle, no worries. I also always have make up removing cloths just because they are refreshing during a drive or flight, but also because if I somehow run out of facial cleanser, I don't need to resort that horrible hotel soap. *Cringe* Pac-a-Poncho too! No, but literally. Who wants to shlept around with a bulky umbrella while sight seeing? Or even at Disney World? (Preferably Harry Potter World), but do you want to hold an umbrella there? Nope! So bring one that fits into your purse and does not need to be held! Lastly, a favorite of mine is cotton, disposable slippers. I got this idea after taking a flight in which the airline provided every passenger with disposable slippers. Your feet seriously feel better after they take a nice breather. And, wouldn't you feel like your in a spa? A small price to pay to be pampered.

I can't wait for my next trip, I have no clue where I'm going! But, I know I will be packed and ready for travel :)

Featured on Bullett

See the page here

Came across this while randomly searching the web. I remember being street style snapped for them on a really hot day in Soho. Could have sworn my makeup was melting off my face, but I guess it was ok! I was asked to share my favorite beauty products that I can't live without, and I wrote 'BB Cream and a great lip balm.' Those are my essentials! I've been trying to convert all my friends from traditional foundation to BB Cream. It feels like a lotion (maybe is a little thicker than facial lotion?) with an extremely smooth and creamy texture that you can just rub in without thinking twice (or have annoying marks foundation can bring). It covers pretty much like one and also illuminates your skin, giving a very fresh complexion. It's a necessity along with a great lip moisturizer for these extra hot summer days!

If you have any skin care or makeup questions for me, let me know! I'll be posting my beauty routine soon.

Yay for Saturday!

The Little Black Dress

dress+purse: korea, heels: zara

instagram: christinejeanhopkins

The other day, my schedule was jam packed with work and meetings and events. The night before, I decided to pick out my outfit, so I wasn't scrambling in the morning. As I went through my closet, I thought to myself how I wanted something simple, versatile and just thoughtless--I didn't want to have to worry if I was dressed correctly for the situation. As I sifted through my closet, I came across this old dress that I haven't worn for years. I excitedly tried on the lightweight dress and thought about how Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn truly had it right with a 'little black dress.' It's an effortless way of dressing and does everything I need it to do when I'm too busy to worry about what I have on. Ran from an internship to a lunch date to a dinner appointment to drinks and a night out with compliments along the way. Perfect! Look to adopt one into your closet pronto!!

Happy Friday :)

Maxi Perfection

maxi skirt: aland, top+tank top+sunnies: forever21, vest:korea, headscarf: h&m, purse: michael kors, wedges: anne klein

Did you miss me?? I've really missed you! It's been nice to take a breather to focus myself, but I'm really happy to be back on my blog and sharing my fashion. This outfit is a favorite of mine--a wonderful blend of a maxi, tie dye, and a vest. What more can I ask for? What I  really focused on in this outfit is layering (hence the 3 tops). I just love long and flowing layers, but getting the right lengths for each can be a little difficult, especially when a maxi is involved. You don't want to cover too much of the maxi, or have an awkwardly short length, so a length in the middle is always the best.
As I tried on my outfit that morning, I placed my hair in the usual top bun. That's really all my hair can do during the summer anyway, but that morning it just felt too plain. I found my favorite H&M lipstick scarf and twisted it into a headscarf. I like how the ends tie quite short and add more style. Do you like?

Happy to be back!
